Taking part in a fundraising event, or organising your own fundraiser, is a fun and fulfilling way to raise money in memory of your loved one.

Whether you run a cake sale or a marathon, hold a quiz night, bike ride or even a collection, why not challenge yourself to fundraise in memory of your loved one and make new and happy memories along the way?

Kev would want to be remembered in this way

Mike and Sue Jackson support our work in memory of their son-in-law, Kevin, who was killed while serving in Afghanistan.

Here they tell us how fundraising in Kev’s honour helps them celebrate his life and values.

Fun ways to fundraise

However much time and energy you have to offer, there’s a positive and fun way to fundraise for everyone.

Whether you’d like to place a collection tin in a local shop, cook up a curry night, organise a football match, hold a virtual karaoke party or be sponsored to give up chocolate for a month - we can help.

Our fundraising section is full of easy and enjoyable ways to raise money in honour of your hero and in aid of our nation’s wounded heroes.

Hold an event in memory

Over the years, lots of our friends have performed amazing feats in memory of a beloved friend, family member or colleague.

Whether you want to be sponsored to meet your daily step target, cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats, walk through some of Britain’s most beautiful landscapes or summon all your courage to do a skydive; we have an exciting and varied range of sporting challenges for you to choose from.

And for those who prefer to get their thrills sitting down, you can even fundraise in memory while online gaming.

Register your fundraising event

Once you’ve decided how you’d like to fundraise, please contact our Supporter Care team on 0300 303 9888, or email fundraise@helpforheroes.org.uk. We can help you register your collection or event and advise you on your next steps and what permissions you may need to seek from local authorities.

Collect money or be sponsored in memory

Creating an online fundraising page is an effective way to join with others and raise money in memory of a loved one.

There are several social media sites and fundraising platforms that offer the option to donate or fundraise online.

Hold a funeral or memorial collection

Holding a funeral collection can help people say goodbye and pay their respects. Asking friends and family to contribute in memory of your loved one can be a wonderful and positive way to bring everyone together at a very sad time. And knowing their donations will support a cause that was important to your loved one can bring comfort and hope to everyone involved.

Registration

If you are arranging a funeral or memorial service and would like to hold a collection, please call our Supporter Care Team on 0300 303 9888 or email supporter.care@helpforheroes.org.uk

Our team will register your collection and answer any questions you may have. They can explain how you, your family members and friends can make online donations, over the phone or through the post. We can also arrange for you to receive a supply of our remembrance collection envelopes if these would be helpful.

Donate to a collection

  • To donate by phone, call our friendly and helpful Supporter Care Team on 0300 303 9888.
  • To donate online, visit our In memory page. Please be sure to let us know your gift is in memory, and your loved one’s name, so we can record your tribute.
  • To donate by cheque, please send your donation to Help for Heroes, 14 Parkers Close, Downton Business Centre, Downton, Salisbury, SP5 3RB. Please enclose a covering letter letting us know who you are commemorating and, if possible, the name of the individual or funeral director who is organising the collection. This will help us make sure your gift is added to the right collection.

Hero Funds

A Hero Fund remembrance page is the easiest way to collect sponsorship or donations online, confident in the knowledge they’re being recorded as in memory of your loved one.

Hero Funds are Help for Heroes’ own tribute funds, enabling you to create and personalise an online fundraising page in the name and memory of your very own hero.

You can create multiple fundraising events within your main fund and share them via social media.

It’s simple to keep track of how much money your event has raised through online and offline donations, and you’ll be able to see these contributions added to the overall total too.

Facebook fundraisers

If you use Facebook to keep in touch with friends and family, creating a Facebook Fundraiser is an easy way to organise a collection.

If you choose to support us, please remember to select ‘Help for Heroes Official’ as your chosen charity and let others know who your collection is commemorating.

You can do this either in the title of your fundraiser, for example “Jill’s sponsored walk in memory of Grandad” or in the “Why are you raising money?” section when you create your collection.

To find out more about starting a Facebook Fundraiser, visit our handy page: helpforheroes.org.uk/give-support/ways-to-give/creating-a-facebook-fundraiser/

If you’d like to receive an acknowledgement and ensure your donations are recorded as being in memory of your loved one, please contact our Supporter Care team on 0300 3030 9888 or email supporter.care@helpforheroes.org.uk

Just Giving

If you already have a Just Giving account, creating a memorial page on the site could be a convenient option for you. You can mark your collection as being in memory and name the page after your loved one.

If you’re seeking sponsorship for an event you’re organising or taking part in, you can also mark your collection as being in memory.

Again, if you’d like to receive an acknowledgement and ensure your donations are recorded as being in memory of your loved one, please contact our Supporter Care team on 0300 3030 9888 or email supporter.care@helpforheroes.org.uk.
