Dan's Story

Dan Phillips' recovery journey will last for life. The former Corporal's life was changed beyond recognition when he was shot at while on patrol in Afghanistan in 2012.

He ruptured discs and damaged his spinal cord. His mobility was seriously affected and Dan faced years of intensive therapy and could no longer even move around his own home. Having to leave the Army left him heartbroken.

Dan's back problems meant that his future remains uncertain. The injuries he received in Afghanistan mean that he will have limited mobility for life.

"It affects my life in every way. Sometimes my son has to help me get my shoes and socks on."

Despite these challenges, Dan is determined to remain as active as his injuries allow, doing the school run with his son twice a day.

Whatever happens, I know I'll be able to turn to Help for Heroes.

    • Of course! We are incredibly grateful for any amount you feel able to give.

    • We all make promises. At Help for Heroes we’ve promised all those affected by their service that we will support them, for life.

Now, we’re asking our supporters, like you, to echo this promise – to Make the Heroes Promise.

The Heroes Promise asks supporters, new and old, to commit to making a monthly donation. This reliable and predictable income allows us to plan for the future – fulfilling our promise for as long as we’re needed.
