We thank you all!
It’s National Volunteer Week and we’d like to say a huge thank you to our incredible team of volunteers – you really are the beating heart of Help for Heroes. We’re so grateful for the time you give in support of wounded veterans and their families and we simply couldn’t do what we do without you!
Volunteering with us
Our amazing team of volunteers are the beating heart of Help for Heroes and becoming one is so rewarding. Make new friends and learn new skills, all while helping wounded veterans and their families to recover and get on with their lives.
However much time you can give, you’ll be making a big difference and we promise you’ll have fun while you’re at it!
What you can do
There are so many ways you can get involved, whether you’ve got days or just hours to spare. You could be the friendly face representing Help for Heroes at local events in your community, like country shows and Armed Forces Day events. Or get ready to wave your flag as you cheer on and support participants at our sports events. Fancy doing your own thing? You can organise your own fundraising events too, with our full support.
If you don’t have much time but still want to do your bit when you can, you could put collection tins out in your community or volunteer at one of our National Collections, which take place throughout the year.

Our promise to you
When you join Help for Heroes as a volunteer, you become part of our family. We’ll welcome you with an induction, where you’ll find out more about the charity and your role as a volunteer. You’ll have access to our online community, so you can easily keep in touch with other volunteers in your area, and you’ll have the opportunity to join us for regular volunteer get-togethers, too.
What our volunteers say
“Volunteering is so rewarding. I love engaging with the public and particularly love meeting the veterans. I volunteer alongside the rest of my family, so for us, it’s also a fun day out!” Sophie Groves
Army veteran Paul Colling lost the life and the job he loved after a traumatic leg injury left him in near-constant pain. After leaving the military, he found a new job on civvy street, but the soldier inside him was at war with his new path, and Paul struggled mentally with the sudden loss of his military identity. Twice, he reached the point where he considered ending his own life.
A Help for Heroes coaching course and joining our Band of Brothers fellowship provided a crucial turning point.
Now, Paul’s career is thriving and having made progress in his own recovery, he volunteers for us to raise awareness of the continuing need for veterans’ support.
“I volunteer because I’m a beneficiary of Help for Heroes. They have helped me so much since I found out I was being medically discharged. They’ve given me live-saving care with my mental health, medical care to keep me walking, career courses, respite courses, the list goes on.
“Volunteering allows me to give back to Help for Heroes for all the hard work they do and also to meet incredible people along the way.”
