New to streaming?

Welcome to the wonderful world of streaming! There’s a number of ways to go about it, but it doesn’t have to be complex.

The Nintendo Switch currently doesn’t support any integrations with Twitch or YouTube to stream natively from the console, so you’ll need a PC capable of streaming.

Set Up Your Stream

On your PC;

  1. Download OBS (Open Broadcasting System).This will allow you to broadcast your stream.
  2. Select your operating system and follow the steps to install.
  3. Enter your stream key. This can be accessed via your Twitch account on the left-hand side panel under 'Settings' and 'Channel'.
  4. Select 'stream key' and copy the stream key link.
  5. Paste this into your OBS setting. Continue your set up and you will be presented with your streaming screen.
  6. Plug your Nintendo Switch into your capture card device. This will take the HDMI signal from your console and have it run into your PC.
  7. Create a Source in OBS called ‘Video Capture Device’ and from the drop-down menu, select your capture card of choice. Then you’re game footage will appear in your scene and you can resize/crop to whatever works for your overlay.
  8. Add any docks that you’d like within OBS, to be able to see twitch chat, monitor audio levels, change stream titles and descriptions etc.
  9. Create/Download and configure an overlay. Many templates for overlays are available online, or you can create your own. These can include space for a donation bar, your webcam feed, the choice is completely yours.
  10. If you’re having a donation bar, many platforms will generate HTML code that you can use as a Browser Source within your streaming scene. This will allow your viewers and supporters to see how much you've raised and help you reach your target.
  11. Once you’re ready, hit start stream and away you go!
