WHAT IS HELP FOR HEROES' COACHING ACADEMY?

Are you a veteran who would like to pass on your love of sport to others and help the Armed Forces community in your local area?

Our Coaching Academy gives you the chance to develop amazing new skills and gain useful qualifications to do just that.

Run in collaboration with national governing bodies and coaching organisations, the year-long course will teach you how to coach your sport of choice.

From there, you’ll be able to use your knowledge and passion to make a difference by helping others become active and more confident in sport.

ABOUT THE QUALIFICATION

From swimming to surfing, basketball to badminton - whatever sport you love, you can learn to share your passion by training to become a sports coach.

Applications open during May and your course will take 6 – 12 months to complete.

Should your application be successful, you’ll need to attend an induction and one face-to-face learning weekend. From here there’ll be a mix of both online and face to face learning.

During your training, we’ll be here to support you every step of the way and can help you to find local opportunities to build your sports coaching experience.

Caroline's story

Once you’ve achieved your qualification, you’ll be ready to deliver inclusive sessions at Help for Heroes club and sporting events in your community. Like Caroline, who attended the coaching academy in 2023.

She earned qualifications in indoor rowing and powerlifting, and went on to become a powerlifting coach.

Now, she coaches other veterans.

“One guy told me, ‘I never thought I’d get to do anything like this because I’m blind.’ I said, ‘We’ll adapt it.’ I placed a box behind him so he could feel when he reached the right squat depth. The smile on his face was everything.”
