A GP and former army medic from Collingbourne Kingston, near Marlborough, is to take part in a 27km hike along the Jurassic Coast next month, to raise funds for Armed Forces veterans.
Dr Barbara King, 64, served for nine years with the Royal Army Medical Corps but now works in a practice that covers both Tidworth and Tedworth House.
She is fundraising by participating in a Heroes Hike along the coast, organised by the Charity, for several reasons. She explained, “I enjoy walking, and this is a lovely part of the country to hike in, and I live and work in an area with lots of military connections.
“Additionally, there are many veterans in the area, so raising money for the Charity seemed a great way to do something I enjoy, while supporting a cause I know well. I have taken part in charity hikes before but not for Help for Heroes and I’m looking forward to it.”

The series of seven Heroes Hikes started in April this year, with three more to go, including the Jurassic Coast on 15 August, Dartmoor on 12 September and the Lincolnshire Wolds on 26 September. Each guided hike costs £49 per person, with a suggested fundraising target of £200.
