Competing in the Invictus UK trials in Sheffield was a huge step forward in Denise’s recovery. Suffering from PTSD, it helped the 48 year-old Army Veteran originally from Hebburn now living in County Durham , regain her self-respect and self confidence. She said: “It helped me forget about the things that I struggle with every day and regain my ‘can-do’ attitude.
It felt like being in the Service again only better. There was no judgment, only encouragement, support, laughter and togetherness. Until I began my sports recovery journey, I was all but existing. This has given me a look at what life moving forward could look like."
