Apply to have your research listed

We are happy to advertise requests to recruit participants for research on our website if we feel the project is of benefit to the wider Armed Forces community.

If we feel the request is appropriate, you’ll be asked to complete a full application form for submission to the Help for Heroes Research Approvals Committee.

Please note that we will only consider research proposals from PhD students, post-doctoral researchers and from funded researchers with significant research experience.

We have a duty of care to our beneficiaries to ensure that any research promoted is safe, and that the time and effort required to support it is likely to be beneficial to both them and the Charity. A research approval and implementation pathway have therefore been established, allowing members of the Committee to consider research applications received, and to either approve or reject a researcher’s proposal to access Help for Heroes beneficiaries.

The Help for Heroes Research Approvals Committee reviews all research proposals involving beneficiaries who are veterans and/ or are the family members of veterans.

The Committee cannot give approval for research involving serving personnel.

Research involving serving personnel and/ or their entitled dependants must be reviewed separately by the Ministry of Defence Research Ethics Committee. For more information please see: https://www.gov.uk/government/groups/ministry-of0defence-research-ethics-committees

What do I need to do?

Complete the form above and Dr Allie Bennington, Co-Chair of the Research Approvals Committee will be in touch with you.

What happens next?

Once you have submitted your application, the Co-Chair will acknowledge its receipt within 10 working days. You will receive an email notification when the review is complete.

How long does it take to gain approval?

There are several factors that impact on the time taken to hear back from the Research Approvals Committee about whether a request has been approved. These include the quality of the application, whether all the required information has been provided and the time taken to consider the request internally. Whilst the Committee meets two to three times a year, depending on the number of applications received it may be that a proposal will not gain approval at the first review meeting and amendments will need to be made and submitted for a second review.

We endeavour to approve requests within six months of receiving them.

Who should I contact if I have any queries?
