Every veteran deserves dignity, fairness and financial security after service, but too many are facing unnecessary barriers when trying to access compensation, benefits and support.

Across the UK, veterans are facing

  • Armed Forces compensation being treated as income when calculating eligibility for benefits
  • Chronic pain not being consistently recognised within compensation schemes
  • Unnecessary repeated reassessments for permanent life-changing injuries

These systems are inconsistent and unfair and leave veterans facing additional hardship because of injuries sustained during service.

32% of veterans in England and Wales were classed as disabled in the 2021 Census

Our Solution

We’re calling on Government to take practical steps that would quickly make life fairer for veterans across the UK.

We want to see

  • Armed Forces compensation fully disregarded as income across benefits systems
  • Better recognition and compensation for veterans living with chronic pain
  • An end to unnecessary reassessments for veterans with permanent serve injuries, including amputations
  • Greater consistency and fairness across the UK
  • Better collaboration between Government departments and veterans’ organisations

These changes would remove unnecessary barriers an help ensure veterans can live well after service.
