John suffers daily with a serious back injury which confines him to his wheelchair for 90% of the day and leaves him in constant pain.

He is now a full-time athlete with British curling and has toured North America and Europe playing in competitions with a medal haul of three Gold, one Silver and two Bronze with Team Scotland.

On being selected for the Paralympic Inspiration Programme, John said: “It’s a mark of recognition from my peers and coaches, and it fills me with extreme pride and self worth as I mark this as a huge landmark on to the 2022 paras . It’s what I’ve been working towards for the last four years.

“I want to reach the pinnacle of my sport by representing Great Britain. Sport gives me self worth, a reason to get up in the morning. When I became a full time wheelchair user I thought I would never get back that feeling of being in a team sport. It helps you to adapt to your new challenges.”
