Wedding Charity Favours & Donations

What is a wedding favour?

Wedding favours are small gifts given to the guests by the happy couple on the wedding day as a way of thanking them for attending. Wedding favours are usually small, not very expensive trinkets or treats, like sweets, hand fans, or ornamental place names. Generally, wedding favours total no more than £5 per guest, which can make for a sizeable expense once the whole wedding party is considered. That’s why it’s a fantastic opportunity to consider donating money to charity rather than wedding favours, so you can replace sweets with an even sweeter wedding charity donation that will truly change lives.

Our Donation Cards

Our donation cards let your guests know you've chosen to support our heroes. You can also add a Help for Heroes lapel pin as a unique party favour.

All we ask is that you make a suggested donation of £1 per guest if you'd like the donation card, or a suggested donation of £2 if you would also like to add an enamel Help for Heroes lapel pin.

Why donate to Help for Heroes on your wedding day?

Weddings are often said to be the happiest day in the couple’s lives, and they’re great fun for the guests too. A wedding charity donation helps embrace the loving spirit of the day by bringing guests together not only in celebration but in generosity, giving them the opportunity to see the start of the couple’s new life together while transforming the lives of our heroic servicemen and women.

A wedding charity donation to Help for Heroes will help in just some of the following ways:

  • Psychological support: Our work helps our Heroes cope with injuries both seen and unseen. We provide veterans and their family with support and guidance through the stress and anxiety that comes with transitioning back to civilian life, as well as depression and trauma caused by their time in service

  • Physical support: We offer care and education for leading full, healthy lives.

  • Welfare: We provide access to key workers so veterans can get the help they need to live in safe and stable homes, deal with debt, and budget for their new lives

  • Training and support: We give veterans access to training and career advice as they return to civilian life

  • Growing a support network: Help for Heroes is always looking for ways to improve the lives of veterans, whether that’s working alongside other specialist charities or reaching out to the government to create new programmes of education for the wider public

Donating money rather than charity wedding favours

Charity wedding favours can be used in conjunction with charity wedding donations to help you raise life-changing amounts. You can, of course, make a wedding charity donation on behalf of every guest, but you may find small trinkets make for the best charity wedding favours. Not only does this ensure guests have a physical memento of the day, but it’s also a fantastic way for them to continue to show their support for our Heroes and raise awareness.

Our shop stocks official charity donation wedding favours which feature stylish donation cards and the optional addition of a Help for Heroes pin. We also have range of wristbands that are perfect charity donation wedding favours for those looking for something more personal, and they’re able to fit a range of budgets. The shop is run by Help for Heroes directly, so every item purchased helps support our veterans.

How to ask for charity donations instead of wedding gifts

Asking for a wedding charity donation instead of presents is easy to do. You can include the information in your original invitation, with a simple message, such as: “instead of gifts, we would ask you to please donate what you can to Help for Heroes.” Be sure to follow this up with information on one of the below methods, so your guests know precisely how they can make a difference.

How to get started

The simplest way to donate to Help for Heroes is through our donation page. This allows guests to choose precisely how much they want to donate, if they want to do so just once or as a monthly contribution, and also add the event they are donating for. Send a group email or individual message to your loved ones, so everyone has a direct link to our donation page. So long as you make it easy for guests to donate, they’re sure to happily make a wedding charity donation on your special day.

For those who cannot make a donation online, you can also make your wedding reception a fundraising event, with buckets and tins that allow people to contribute with cash if they prefer. In order to do this, you will need permission from the venue owner to run a fundraiser, and you can contact us in order to register your event. With this information, guests can then either make a wedding charity donation on the day in cash or using the event ID when donating online. Your total funds raised can be sent to us by bank transfer, cheque, or via a card payment over the phone:

Wedding fundraising on social media

One of the most popular ways to ensure your guests can easily and securely make a wedding charity donation is through a Facebook fundraiser. All you need to do is set up a fundraiser while logged into your account using the dedicated Facebook fundraiser page. Just follow the below steps:

  1. Go to the Facebook fundraiser page

  2. Select Help for Heroes as your charity

  3. Say how much you want to raise as a goal

  4. Select the currency you’ll be collecting in

  5. Select the fundraiser end date (this doesn’t have to be the day of the wedding)

  6. Give your fundraiser a name, e.g., “Our wedding charity donation fund!”

  7. Add a message about how you’re asking for donations instead of gifts

  8. Choose a cover photo

Money donated this way will come to Help for Heroes from Facebook directly, so you and your guests don’t have to worry about doing anything else.

Celebrating your special day
