From Monday 2 March, we’ll be offering those aged 55 and over the chance to have a simple Will written for free by participating solicitors in the following areas:

Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Fife, Glasgow, Inverness, Kilmarnock and Perth.

How does Free Wills Month Scotland work?

During March, we’re working with our trusted Will-writing partner and select solicitors in the above areas to help you draw up a simple* Will for free. Appointments are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. You’ll need to book your appointment during Free Wills Month, but your appointment can take place later.

*Please be aware that the definition of a ‘simple’ Will is at the solicitor's discretion. For more complex estates, the solicitor will discuss any potential costs beforehand, so you won’t face an unexpected charge.

Do I have to leave a gift in my Will to use this service?

Whilst there is no obligation to do so, we’re deeply grateful to everyone who chooses to leave a gift in their Will to Help for Heroes. Once you’ve considered your loved ones, we hope you’ll take a moment to imagine the incredible difference your legacy could make for veterans and their families.

Veterans like Adrian and Elaine, from Fife

Elaine and Adrian, Veterans - Help for Heroes

Adrian served in the RAF for 25 years before suffering a catastrophic brain injury after a series of strokes. His wife, Elaine, a Royal Navy veteran, was left fighting alone until Help for Heroes stepped in.

Eighteen months after he was admitted to hospital, Elaine was desperate to bring her husband home, determined in her belief that with the right care Adrian could improve. Feeling despondent and not knowing where to turn, Elaine met Jane Thomson, a Help for Heroes Clinical Advisor in Scotland, at a local veterans’ breakfast club. Thanks to Jane’s support, Adrian began his rehabilitation journey with home adaptations, daily exercises and speech and language therapy.

Adrian’s life isn’t over because he’s had a stroke – it's just going down a different path and Help for Heroes has been there to help him find his way.

Elaine

Veteran

There’s still a long road ahead but with the support of Help for Heroes, Adrian and Elaine feel positive about the future. Gifts in Wills will help us provide this life-changing support for veterans, like Adrian, for many years to come.

Across Scotland and the UK, veterans and their families are still fighting for the peace they deserve.
