The Role

Taking the time to listen and showing someone you care can make a real difference to the lives of veterans and their families.

As a Volunteer Connection Caller with Help for Heroes, you’ll offer friendly conversation, companionship and a listening ear to members of the Armed Forces Community who may be feeling lonely or isolated.

You will have regular phone calls with a veteran over an agreed period of time, giving them the chance to chat, share their interests and help them to feel heard and understood.

The role is home based and can be tailored to fit around your availability. All expenses will be covered and training is provided.

About You

We’re looking for friendly, caring and reliable people who want to make a difference to the lives of veterans.

You’ll enjoy chatting with people from different backgrounds, be a good listener and be happy to offer a friendly voice and a listening ear. You don’t need any previous experience, and we’ll provide all the training you need.

We ask that you have access to a mobile phone or landline and a willingness to work independently, with guidance and support from your Relationship Manager. Ideally, we ask for a commitment of at least 12 months, giving you the chance to build connections and make a real difference through regular phone calls.

Why?

Sometimes, a friendly chat can make all the difference. Having someone to talk to and a familiar voice to look forward to can help us all feel more connected, heard, and understood.

As a Volunteer Connection Caller, you’ll give a veteran the chance to have a chat, share a story or simply enjoy a bit of company. You don’t need to have all the answers or say anything special. Just giving someone your time and taking an interest in their day can mean a lot and make a huge difference.
