Christmas is a time of year when you can really get creative and go all out with entertaining fundraising activities in support of wounded veterans and their families. Here are some of our favourite ideas.

Christmas Up your House

Bring a bit of festive cheer to your street this Christmas. Ask your neighbours to decorate their porches, front windows or front gardens in the spirit of Christmas and get everyone involved in judging the winner. Each house pays an entry fee to get involved and the most creative décor wins a prize!

Festive fancy dress

Wearing a Christmas jumper or bobble hat at work or at school is one of the simplest and most popular ways to fundraise during the festive period. Set an official date and ask everyone to make a small donation to take part. You could also hold a competition for the best festive dress.

Gift Wrapping Service

A lot of people find themselves short on time when it comes to wrapping the gifts they’ve bought their loved ones, while many others simply don’t enjoy it. Offer a gift-wrapping service in exchange for a donation for wounded veterans. And, remember, ribbons and bows warrant even bigger donations!

Christmas bake off

Whether it's chestnuts roasting on an open fire, mince pies, yule log, Christmas pudding, or other seasonal treats, selling homemade Christmas goodies can bring a lot of joy, but can also raise funds. Your Christmas fundraising could make a huge difference to a veteran that feels lonely or isolated this time of year.

Set up a stall outside your local shops, church service, or even at your local school Christmas event. Just make sure you get permission first. Now, get baking!

Christmas crackers

This couldn’t be easier. Buy some crackers and insert a golden ticket into one of them. Ask for a donation for each cracker and donate the rest.

Christmas shopping

If you’re shopping online and want to raise money, you can do so by shopping at Debenhams, Marks & Spencer, Argos, Dominos Pizza, Expedia and around 4,000 other online outlets, by going through Easy Fundraising or Give as You Live and selecting Help for Heroes as your charity of choice. A donation will be made directly to us.

And don’t forget to tell your friends, family and neighbours about this too.

Christmas carols

Carol singing is synonymous with Christmas, and you don't have to be a Buble or Maria to do it. Get your local Choir, or friends and family together to help raise funds. You could incentivise your singers with mince pies and mulled wine afterwards.

Don your Christmas jumper, hat and scarf; get out there and get those pipes yuled-up! You'll feel better for it and so will many veterans and their families who need your help.

If singing really isn't your thing and you'd prefer to stay in the warm, then why not send a gift instead.

Take the Advent Challenge

Don't just buy an Advent calendar, set yourself an Advent Challenge.

For each of the twelve days of Christmas, choose a different challenge, e.g. bake a cake, do a Santa fun run. Create a fundraising page, share with your colleagues, family and friends and get them to sponsor each challenge and post on social media daily to get more sponsors. The funds you raise will help veterans and their families in what can be a difficult time of year for some.

Ready, steady, go!
