Help for Heroes is continuing to expand its support across Sheffield for the local Armed Forces Community. Following the successful launch of two café sessions and a walking group, the Charity is about to launch a new café session for ex-service men and women and their families who live in the north of the City.
Angelique Foster, who is the Community Builder for Sheffield and is launching the new café session, is hoping that veterans and their families who live in the area, will come forward with suggestions about what the new café could offer.
She explained, "We know that there is a gap in that part of city, in terms of activities for the Armed Forces Community and their families. We want the session to be family friendly, which is why it will run in the evenings. And I want to hear from anyone who has served and their families about what activities they enjoy and how we can make it happen together. It could be anything from quiz nights to games nights.

"In other areas of Sheffield where we've set up our café sessions, veterans have gone on to organise their own local community events. We just bring people together and provide a space for them to connect with other veterans and then use their skills and experience for the benefit of the wider community, if that is what they want to do. Others just want to have a cup of tea or coffee and a chat."
Angelique added, "Our café sessions are an opportunity for former service men and women to get together in a friendly environment, with like-minded people. It doesn't matter when or where you've served – and you don't have to sign up for anything."
The new café sessions will be held on the second Wednesday of every month, 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Sea Cadets Training Centre on Rutland Road (S3 9PZ), starting on Wednesday 9 September. For more information go to Community Builder Sheffield or email angelique.foster@helpforheroes.org.uk.
