In the last three years, Help for Heroes has seen a year-on-year increase in the number of veterans presenting with suicidal ideation, intent, attempt.
Veterans feature significantly in high-risk groups due to general factors such as age, gender, socio-economic groups, as well as additional factors such as living with a long-term physical or mental health condition or pain.
We conducted a survey into mental health and suicide in the GB adult population and the Armed Forces Community (8,346 adults, YouGov Plc, July 2022) and this is what we found:
