The Armed Man concert in support of Help for Heroes

Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man, A Mass for Peace.

22 March 2014 at 7.30pm.

St. Michael and All Angels Church Lyndhurst, Hampshire.

The Armed Man is a Mass by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins, subtitled "A Mass for Peace". The work was commissioned by the Royal Armouries Museum for the Millennium celebrations, and to mark the museum's move from London to Leeds, and it was originally dedicated to victims of the Kosovo crisis.

Like Benjamin Britten's War Requiem before it, it is essentially an anti-war piece and is based on the Catholic Mass, which Jenkins combines with other sources, principally the fifteenth century folk song L'homme armé in the first and last movements.

This is a highly evocative and moving work which will be performed in St. Michael’s church in Lyndhurst for the first time. It is especially appropriate that it is to be performed in the year of the centenary of the outbreak of World War 1. The concert is being performed to raise funds for Help for Heroes, for St Michael and All Angels, Lyndhurst Church and All Saints’ Church, Minstead.

If you would like to join the choir for this amazing fundraising event and are familiar with the piece then please apply for an application form. There will be one rehearsal on the afternoon of the concert with choir registration at 1.30pm and performance at 7.30pm.  Choir places are limited so please apply asap.  Score hire if needed will be £2. Audience tickets may also be booked in advance.
