In February every year, the children at Liverpool College Prep School hold a charity week. This year we supported ‘HelpFor Heroes’ as one of our members of staff had completed a sponsored event for this charity earlier in the year.
We also felt that it was a particularly poignant charity to support, this year being the centenary of the First World War, and so we invited Ian Williams, H4H Local Volunteer Co-ordinator and Army Reservist (also pictured with Deputy Headteacher Mrs Sue Nelson) to come along and speak to the children at a special assembly.
Mrs Nelson said; 'The children plan and organise many different activities during charity week. During break times, cake sales take place. Then during the lunch break our hall is transformed into a charity fair with children manning the stalls.
This year there were lots of exciting activities organised by the children including: throw the ping pong ball into a jar, guess the name of the teddy, raffles, hair clips that had been made by the children, hair and nail beauty salon, popcorn, chocolate fountain, guess how many lego blocks in a lego model, guess where the teddy had been on holiday, book stall, beat the goalie, netball shooting competition, how many sweets in the jar and many, many more! We also held a charity quiz night and this year over 100 pupils attended on the Monday evening'.
The children had this to say; 'Our house pancake race took place on the Tuesday after school with Gladstone winning this year in a very close race. This was followed by the house ‘Bring & Buy’ sale which included a children’s tombola, a cake stall and white elephant stalls. Everyone took part in a sponsored ‘tough mudder’ challenge. We all got VERY muddy carrying logs and crawling through the mud but it was GREAT FUN!!
This year we are extremely proud to have raised the magnificent amount of £5673.34 which is our BEST EVER amount raised for a charity!!'
Ian of H4H said; 'We've never had a local school raise this amount of money, and in such a short space of time, and what they have achieved is absolutely phenomenal!
So a huge well done to the whole community of the Liverpool College Prep School including pupils, parents and staff....they more than went that extra mile for H4H!!!'
