After her husband passed away, volunteering for Help for Heroes has given Jane a chance to ‘meet people’ and ‘figure out her identity’.
Volunteers have been at the heart of the Help for Heroes story from the start.
Our amazing volunteers play a vital role at Help for Heroes.
Thanks to them, we’ve been providing life-changing support to veterans and their families for over 15 years. We were founded by volunteers. And they’ve been our beating heart ever since.
In 2007, as troops were returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with horrific injuries, an army of volunteers made sure they got the care and support they needed.
Up and down the country, people from all backgrounds and walks of life gave up their time for us. They collected money at supermarkets, arranged fundraising days at golf clubs, and got out and about in their local communities to support countless fundraising events.
Thanks to this spirit and energy something truly special could happen. Those who had risked everything for our safety, who gave so much, but asked for little in return, were able to receive life-changing support.
The kindness and energy of our volunteers has ensured that 27,000 veterans and their families have been supported by the Charity so far.
We couldn’t do what we do without them. They raise the money that pays for life-changing support services. They get the message across to thousands of people that we’re still needed and that together, we’re making a difference.
Members of the Armed Forces community need your support more than ever.
Life after a military career is over can be incredibly tough. Overnight you’ve lost not only your job, but where you live, and a support network that is like your family. The civilian world can seem scary, confusing, and not very welcoming.
Your support will ensure that veterans and their families get the help they need to manage their physical and mental health. To overcome isolation and loneliness. And to gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to have a successful and fulfilling life.
The pandemic hit veterans and their families hard. Thanks to your support, we were able to continue to provide life-saving services at a time when people needed it most.
But support that saves and changes lives, costs money. And after a year of cancelled fundraising events as the country was in lockdowns, veterans need that army of volunteers to go into battle for them again.
We made a solemn pledge to be there for our Armed Forces community for as long as they need us. Will you join us and help give our veterans and their families the futures they deserve?
