Supporting our Armed Forces community since 2020.

We are proud to partner with St. James's Place, which has not only donated £250,000 in support of veterans and their families, but co-produced and developed our Financial Wellbeing Course as part of our Recovery College, and ensured the rollout of our Veterans Moving Forward course to NHS Recovery Colleges over the next three years.

St. James's Place, a FTSE 100 Financial Services organisation, began trading in 1992 and is now a leading wealth management business, offering products and services in many areas including finance, risk and compliance, research and development, investment management, technology and legal and marketing.

Based in the Cotswolds, St. James's Place also has 22 UK office locations and premises in Dublin, Hong Kong, Singapore and Shanghai.

Our colleagues at St. James's Place have also provided their financial expertise in delivering the Financial Wellbeing Course as well as co-producing our self-guided materials; this includes producing a film on financial tips for Project Solidarity. This year they extended their support to Team Help for Heroes with financial awareness and advice sessions, which have been well-received during the cost of living crisis, and a great example of an innovative partnership.

Tobias Colton from St. James's Place, and a veteran himself, told us, "Having worked in financial services for 10 years, it is clear that as country we don’t provide sufficient education around the world of finance. No one teaches us about mortgages, credit cards, pensions, bank accounts etc. or how to manage our money, which results in a big divide between those who have money and those who don’t.

I joined the Submarine Service at age 18 with 3 meals a day and a roof over my head and after leaving I realised that I could have used my money much more productively. It is a shock when you leave the forces having to budget for things which weren’t an issue before. Financial wellbeing is so important even if we don’t want to admit it, and can create significant levels of stress, on top of everything else life throws at us!

"As such I wanted to help out however I could and I’m so glad I did. I’ve helped facilitate a couple of financial well-being courses with the excellent facilitators from Help for Heroes and the feedback has been amazing. Seeing the groups come together and support one another in a safe and welcoming environment is really rewarding and seeing their confidence grow (myself included) hopefully means attendees are armed with the knowledge to improve their own financial position and feel more comfortable talking about and managing money."

The benefit to businesses is so great (for getting involved with charities), it is interesting that it is not more utilised. When a business person takes time out to be involved with a charity, new skills are learnt."
