Support is available through The British Gas Energy Trust (BGET) to help eligible families across the UK during difficult times.
The Impact of Financial Hardship on Veterans
Money worries aren’t just about bills - they can take a really heavy emotional toll, too. It can be stressful, lonely, and tiring when you don’t know if you’ll have enough for food, heating, or other essential day to day items. For veterans, this can be especially hard. Studies show that nearly 30% of veterans say they’ve felt money worries in the past month (Gov Uk 2025).
This is why we want you to know about the help that’s available for those who may need a helping hand, and how to apply.
BGET Grants Available
BGET is an independent charity that aims to reduce the impact of financial hardship on people who might be struggling. While their grants and services are open to everyone who meets the eligibility criteria, veterans are encouraged to apply if you need an extra helping hand. You do not need to be a British Gas customer to access many of their funds.
BGET offers practical, confidential support to help people meet their energy needs, manage costs, and build long-term financial confidence. Grant programmes are designed to help individuals and families in immediate need, providing breathing space during difficult times.
Available Support Includes:
- Individuals & Families Fund
Open until 27 February 2026.
Available to credit and prepayment customers from British Gas and other suppliers, offering direct financial assistance for energy related costs. This might help to clear high debts and arrears, making monthly payments more manageable.
- Energy Support Fund (British Gas customers only)
Open until 31 March 2026 (unless funds are used sooner). Available for British Gas credit and prepayment meter customers. Offers further financial help for those struggling to manage their bills or accumulating debts.
