Since 2014, a woman from Denbighshire has trekked thousands of miles, across some of the most inhospitable places in the world, to raise funds for a charity close to her heart.
Teresa Aspden, aged 68, who lives near Llangollen has been inspired by the experiences of her nephew, who was in the Royal Marines, and from her time as a nurse working with veterans struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, to raise funds for Help for Heroes. And she hasn’t given up yet, as she’s about to take on a five-day trek in Kerala at the end of the month, including a 2,630 metre climb, up India’s second highest peak.
Teresa worked as a Veterans Liaison Nurse in the NHS and saw first-hand how their time in service affected some people.
She said: “When you’re slogging up a hill and you’re hot and sweaty, it can be absolute hell, but it’s nothing compared to what some of our brave service men and women have been through. I saw on a day-to-day basis the after-effects, and it made me want to do something more to help.”

Fundraiser
Teresa’s challenges have so far taken her to Vietnam, Kilamanjaro, the Sahara, the Himalayas, Ecuador and Petra. And she’s raised over £7,000 to support veterans.
She added: “People have been so generous in their support and this year I’m hoping to raise another £1,000. And I’m not going to be giving up just yet!”
