A Help for Heroes nurse, and keen angler, has praised the team at Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV) for their on-going support of the Charity. In August this year, HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands held their fourth annual fishing competition, ‘The BBV Little Fish’, raising over £25,000 to support former servicemen and women.

Karen Jamieson is a specialist nurse, working with the Help for Heroes team that looks after very seriously injured veterans, some of whom need 24-hour care. She is a keen angler herself, served as a nurse in the military for nearly 40 years, and knows how valuable the funds raised by the team at BBV are.

She said: “I love fishing myself, as do a lot of veterans I know. I was amazed when I heard how much BBV have raised this year.

“I see on a daily basis the challenges that many of our veterans face, living with life-changing physical injuries. And when I learned that over the past three years they have already raised £41,740., I just wanted to say ‘thank you’ to their team and to everyone who has been so generous with their support.”

It was a privilege to meet some of the veterans the charity supports."

‘The Little Fish’ event was held in August at Pool House Fisheries, near Tamworth, with 16 taking part in the competition. Paul Kelly, Senior Works Manager at BBV is part of the ‘BBV Danglers’. Speaking on behalf of the team, he said:

“It was a privilege to meet some of the veterans the charity supports. The venue and atmosphere were fantastic and it’s great to know that the money raised will provide crucial support to the Armed Forces Community, helping them have a better quality of life after service.

“The BBV Danglers would also like to say a special thank you to the team in the background, who helped with the fundraising. The money raised would not have been possible without their support.”
