A team from a London based business that supports veterans in the USA has taken on the challenge of completing a 25km hike, to help veterans closer to home. And they are going to be joined by their American colleague and his family.
Jonathan Smith, the Group MD of recruitment company TSSI is putting together the team of seven that will be taking part in the Heroes Hike, on 19 July. The route takes in the Dam Busters skyline in the Peak District and involves a 650m climb.
TSSI works with the Department of Defence in the USA and through its Heroes for Hire programme, it supports service men and women in the last six months of their service to find careers after service. Tim Koirtyohann who is the USA MD and his wife Kim are travelling 4,658 miles from Fort Worth to take part in the hike.
London based Jonathan Smith said: “This event struck a chord – supporting UK veterans, aligning with our ‘Heroes to Hire’ mission. It’s more than just a hike; it’s a walk with purpose, through history, for something bigger than ourselves.
“The anticipation is high – knowing we’ll be surrounded by beautiful landscapes, immersed in history and united in making a difference.”
A series of ten Heroes Hikes have been organised over the summer, taking in the Jurassic Coast, the Yorkshire Dales and other notable landmarks. A total of 430 people have signed up for the opportunity to take on a rewarding challenge, reconnect with nature and make new friends.
It's inspiring to see people from all walks of life come together around a shared mission.”

Jonathan added: “I’ve taken part in quite a few charity events over the years. This one stood out for several reasons. Not only does it support veterans here in the UK but it also aligns closely with what Tim and the team are doing through our ‘Heroes to Hire’ initiative in the USA.
“The setting is stunning and historically significant and the team building that’s already emerged has been incredible. Taking part in events like this always gives me a deep sense of purpose and gratitude. It's inspiring to see people from all walks of life come together around a shared mission.”
