Veteran Michael (Mikey) Hall (Richmond, North Yorkshire)

Sport: Archery

Michael (38), known to friends as Mikey, was left paralysed from the chest down after an accident on an army assault course. Mikey took up archery five years ago when a friend invited him along to his local club.

Mikey now practices five days a week and competes in tournaments all around the UK, using a compound bow, which is shorter and ideal for target shooting as it is easier to use when in a wheelchair.

Mikey is involved with sports of all kinds and was one of 16 wounded, injured and sick who cycled from Edinburgh to London in May 2013 as part of Help for Heroes’ Hero Ride, completing the 445 miles on a hand powered bike. He has also learned how to swim using just his upper body, competed in two half ironman competitions this year and is in training, with Help for Heroes’ Team True Spirit, for the 2014 Iron Man UK.

The Paralympic Games is Mikey’s ultimate goal, where he hopes to one day Arch for his country. Help for Heroes are helping him to achieve it by supporting him with training equipment, including a Hand Bike, as well as supporting him as part of Help for Heroes' Team True Spirit, in the Cotswold Triathlon.
