Sarah, a former Chief Petty Officer in the Royal Navy, was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis in 2005, causing fatigue which impacts on function and has lead to periods of depression. She also has problems with balance and loss of sensation. Since joining the Help for Heroes Archery Team and attending regular training sessions at Stoke Mandeville, Sarah has had something to focus on which has improved her psychological wellbeing. Training with the squad has given her back a sense of belonging which she has been lacking since she left the Royal Navy.
