Phillip Gillespie served as a Corporal in the British Army. The 30-year-old from Ballymena found the Invictus selection process an incredible experience: “I have met new friends at the training camps and sessions and have realised that a lot of people feel the same way as I do. When it comes to my injury I am very positive and have accepted it, but when it comes to losing my career and the camaraderie, for me, this is the most difficult part of being discharged from the military.” When asked what his hopes for Invictus 2018 are, Philip said: “I believe that being part of the Invictus Games will help me on my road to recovery by encouraging me to socialise with other members of the armed forces. Since being medically discharged I feel like there has always been a hole and I am hoping that the Invictus Games will go some way to filling this hole.”
