Marine Sam Stocks

Categories: Invictus Games 2016 Athletes

Marine Sam Stocks served with 40 Commando since 2011 and has been on one tour of Afghanistan. In September 2013, Sam was diagnosed with a kidney condition called IGA Nephropathy. Within 10 to 15 years Sam’s kidneys will fail and he will need to be on dialysis and eventually have a kidney transplant. Despite his relatively recent diagnosis, Sam has kept up his physical activity and took part in the 2014 Invictus Games.

For Sam, participating in the Invictus Games will give him a physical goal to aim for whilst he is transitioning out of the Royal Marines. With a probable discharge date of July 2016, this will be Sam’s last military competition whilst serving.
