Army veteran John Shepard wants to use the Invictus Games to benefit his mental health after he was diagnosed with PTSD. He says suffering from PTSD has restricted his life in many ways as he suffers severe anxiety in social situations and even daily activities such as going food shopping is very difficult. “I also have difficulty in personal relationships as I tend to cut myself off fearing judgment and rejection. I often shy away from activities due to my self-confidence being now quite low.” John says the regular exercise afforded to him through Invictus Games training camps will not only benefit his physical health, but will boost his mood and offer a routine similar to his military service. “It offers the chance to meet other people facing similar issues and create new friendships based on the shared interests.”
