Veteran Royal Air Force Flight Lieutenant Fiona has had multiple hip operations and a spinal operation as a result of an injury sustained during a training exercise. She now has limited mobility and long-term chronic neuropathic pain in her leg. A swimming course through Help for Heroes Recovery Centre Tedworth House reminded Fiona of her love for competitive sport and taught her about the benefits of low impact sport for her injuries. She says that she has found a reason to get up to train and be good at something again. “Attending the Invictus Games [in London] pushed me to be better at being injured. Talking about what I can do is much more satisfying and interesting than [talking about] the can’t dos.”
