Andy Carlton served as a Staff Sergeant in the British Army until he was medically discharged in 2013. Injured by an IED in 2010, the 40-year-old was left with multiple injuries, including the loss of his left leg: Oon that fateful day I lost so much more than my limb. I lost my home, my family and, most importantly, a career that I had worked so hard for and loved.” The Swadlincote-based sportsman has found sport has given him a new purpose in life: “It has definitely helped my mental wellbeing. “Last September I joined my local Taekwondo club, and since then I have completed three belt gradings. This is something I really enjoy, but it can be challenging at times as I am disadvantaged by the limited movement of my prosthetic leg. I have also recently joined my local running club to help build my fitness – I aspire to work up to half marathons and maybe one day compete in the London Marathon. I have put my family through a lot, and I hope that being part of the Invictus Team will show them how committed I am to regain myself and make them proud.”
