Ray is Caroline Buckle’s partner and a member of Band of Sisters. He previously served in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and has been amazed how preparing for Arch to Arc has boosted her recovery as he joins her on the challenge: “Caroline was asked if she would like to start the training for Arch to Arch in January. When she got home she told me all about it and asked if I would go to the first training session. During that first weekend I was asked if I would take part in the training. This gave me an opportunity to train alongside Caroline so I could support her.
"During all the training sessions I realised that I was missing the physical training side of the Army, I'd been out for over a year, and the comradery between team mates. As time went on training partners and support staff became friends, which Caroline and I thrived on. The changes in Caroline were massive. She has become more confident, out-going and above all more of the true Caroline I know and love.
"Watching Caroline cross the finish line on her first triathlon was one of the proudest moments of my life. It was one of the most moving, awe inspiring, gutsy shows of determination that proves there are no real limits except the ones we put on ourselves. Everybody I've met at the Help for Heroes Recovery Centres are a true testimony of the military's core values and inspiration of the true human spirit to overcome any and all obstacles in life and come out the other side a stronger person.”
