Former musician in the British Army, Laura Knowles took part in the Invictus Games in 2016: “It’s safe to say the games saved my life. It was just after I had been medically discharged and everything in life had been turned upside down, so this opportunity was a big step in beginning to recover my confidence, self-worth and focus.” Following a challenging year, the 26-year-old from Birkenhead was unable to compete in 2017, but is looking forward to taking part this time: “When I received an email to register my interest in the Invictus Games 2018 I instantly remembered how much the Games changed my life and realised I needed that back in my life to sustain the gains I have made. As well as the personal achievement I feel through participating in sport, being part of a team and the sense of camaraderie, is equally important to me in supporting my continued recovery.”
