Fusilier Andy Barlow GM (Denmead, Hampshire)
Fusilier Andy Barlow (27), who is originally from Bolton, Lancashire, was awarded the George Medal for bravery from the Queen at Buckingham Palace in December after he was left with horrific injuries when a landmine exploded blowing off his foot as he ran to the aid of colleagues in Afghanistan in 2006.
Having fought back from injury, Andy is now part of the Combined Services Disabled Ski Team (CSDST) and is supported in this by Help for Heroes. He is also a Sailing Instructor for the Army. Andy is passionate about skiing and competes in events, including the Slalom, Giant Slalom and Super G, with an ultimate aim of competing for his country in future Winter Paralympic Games.
