A Lance corporal in the British Army, Abbie Kasparis credits sport in assisting her ongoing recovery: “My family have noticed a slight increase in confidence since I have been training and I have a reason to get out of bed and keep living. I love running, especially on a summer’s day. I will be taking part in the London Marathon 2019 which I have had to defer due to a knee injury. I want to enjoy the race, complete it and look forward to crossing the finish line.” When asked about how it feels to compete in Invictus 2018, the 32-year-old said: “It’s a dream come true and a huge privilege to represent my country. However, knowing it isn’t always the destination but the journey that is empowering is why I’m going to concentrate on the task in hand – my recovery – I’ll take things one day at a time and use sports to aid me. The sports I’ve chosen are individual, but I love the fact that I am still part of a team, everyone cheers you on and it’s a great feeling to belong.”
