Veteran Set for Galloping Success

Posted by: Help For Heroes | Categories: Fundraising

Last year, Phil Bartlett took on a 268 mile walk – and this year has decided to up the pace and run 150 miles. The challenge, entitled the Garrison Gallop 2, follows the success of Phil’s charity event last summer where he raised over £5000.

Formerly of the Royal Corps of Transport, having served in all over the world, Veteran Phil said “When you join the Armed Forces you become a member of a family. You may not know them all but family they still are. When members of that family need support - you try to do your best to help them. I feel that I have an obligation to support them in any way I can”.Phil has been fundraising for Help for Heroes for over eight years and reached a fundraising milestone of £100,000 for the Charity in December 2018. Phil has achieved this by putting on events such as comedy nights, supermarket collections and his first Garrison Gallop in August 2018. He hopes to raise a further £5000 with Garrison Gallop 2 and said he does not plan to stop fundraising any time soon. He believes, “that those who put their lives on the line for us, deserve a second chance at life”.

The money raised by Phil Bartlett provides lifetime support for the Armed Forces Community and their families as well as recovery for those whose lives are affected by their service, no matter when they served. The Garrison Gallop 2 challenge starts on Monday 13th May at the Help for Heroes Recovery Centre in Plymouth, and 11 days later, concludes at Tedworth House Recovery Centre in Tidworth. Phil will be helped by two support drivers during the challenge. He said, “I feel that our armed forces personnel make sacrifices every single day, and anything WE can do to give back to those who have given so much is important”.
