Tracy is up to the challenge, are you?

Posted by: Help For Heroes | Categories: Challenges , Fundraising

How would you like to experience the thrill of adventure and ramble amongst some of Britain’s most stunning countryside, all whilst raising funds for our Heroes?

We’re on the lookout for budding walkers, regular runners and seasoned hikers to take on fundraising treks from the Ultra Challenge Series, run by our friends at Action Challenge.

An Ultra Challenge offers an experience like no other, with routes and distances to suit all abilities. Soak up the sea air as you navigate the paths of the Jurassic coastline or enjoy breath taking views as you roam the Peak District National Park. All treks invite you to walk, jog or run at your own pace, with distances ranging from 25 – 100km.

Taking on an Ultra Challenge promises to be unforgettable, but don’t just take our word for it. Fundraiser Tracy Wells has completed several of them for Help for Heroes and enjoys them so much that this year she’s back to take on the London to Brighton route!

“Taking part is such a rewarding experience. I signed up for the London Bridge 25km event in 2017 and immediately wanted to take on something even bigger, so this year I’m doing the 100km London to Brighton challenge.

“There are lots of training walks you can join beforehand, where you’ll get to meet fellow ‘challengers’. The sense of camaraderie is great – we might all be taking part to raise money for different charities, but we all help each other out and everyone is so supportive.

“I actually attempted the London to Brighton challenge last year but sadly had to pull out at 44km due to issues with my feet and the heat – so this year I’m even more determined to reach the finish line!

“The important thing I’ve learnt is that everyone who crosses the start line is already a winner, no matter what goal or target they’ve set. When you’re doing something like this to raise money to help others it’s important to remember that even the smallest efforts can make a huge difference to those in need.”

Tracy comes from a family with a military background, which is why she chooses to raise money for our Heroes. “My father, mother and five uncles all served in conflicts including the Falklands and Gulf Wars. I’ve been lucky in that they’ve all come home but I know that others aren’t so lucky. I want to give something back to those who put their lives on the line for us.”

The fundraising aspect of taking on a challenge might seem daunting, but Tracy has some great advice.

“I organise bucket collections to help towards my target, and social media is a brilliant fundraising tool. Set up a JustGiving page, get posting on social media and encourage your family and friends to share your page – I’ve found this a great way to spread the word and get the pennies rolling in “.

So what are you waiting for? Be a trooper like Tracy, sign up today and get ready to take part in the challenge of a lifetime!
