Sisters Olivia and Amelia Bake for Heroes

Posted by: Help For Heroes | Categories: Hero Kids

Sisters Olivia and Amelia have rallied the troops again this year, raising more than £650 since 2016 with their fantastic baking efforts.

Olivia and Amelia Shipley, aged 12 and 14 respectively, first took part in Bake for Heroes in 2016 and 2017. They made a variety of cakes, cupcakes, tray bakes, fruit cakes and sandwich cakes, and raised more than £650 for Help for Heroes in the process.

This year though, the popularity of their stall saw them nearly beat combined sum of previous years, with over 100 different cakes being made, including: raspberry and almond, chocolate, carrot and lemon and lime drizzle to name a few.

The sisters first got involved in the Bake after Olivia saw a leaflet for the event at her school, and despite the family having no military affiliation, she and her sister decided to get involved with the full support of their parents.Their father, Paul, said the family had a “nice warm feeling inside” about raising money for the nation’s wounded, injured and sick Service Personnel and were all excited about the 2018 event.

“We wanted to do our bit because Help for Heroes give assistance to the men and woman who bravely risk their lives for us.” Paul added that sister Amelia was instrumental in organising the baking, and he and his wife merely played a supporting role in the background. He said: “We just wash up and buy all the items needed.”Olivia previously won the Bake for Heroes cake competition in 2016, and she spent a day with a chef at the food giant, Gü puds.
