The rain failed to dampen the mood at the Colchester Recovery Centre as our wounded and their loved ones came for a day of Easter Holiday fun.
Partners, parents and children as well as injured veterans themselves enjoyed the regular get-together at Chavasse VC House, Essex but this time there was a distinctly chocolatey theme!
After a quick cup of tea and a natter, families ventured into the blossoming 2014 award winning Chelsea Flower Show Garden, Hope on the Horizon, to hunt for eggs and enjoy the outdoor space. The rain began to fall but this did not put off our hardy families – chocolate, it seems, has no barrier!
H4H Band of Sister member Sheena Preston, from Norfolk, brought her husband and her two children to Chavasse for the first time. Clutching their cuddly Hero teddy Bears, the children soon felt at home, played with the other kids and soon their smiles began to beam.
Sheena said: “Thank you all for a great time. I have two very happy children. They enjoyed their first visit to Hero Bear’s house!”
The Help for Heroes Band of Brothers and Band of Sisters are supportive fellowships for our wounded injured and sick (the Brothers) as well as their loved ones (the Sisters). They provide opportunities to share experiences through get-togethers like Colchester’s Easter day or relaxing pamper weekends to ease the stresses of living with life-changing wounds, whether physical or hidden. If you have been wounded, injured or sick whilst serving in the UK armed forces or are a loved one and would like to find out more about our fellowships please contact Abbie Griggs on 01206 814892 or email email@example.com
