Messages of Support

Posted by: Help For Heroes | Categories: Band Of Sisters , Fundraising

“Your support means the world to families like mine.”

We have received hundreds of your messages, letters and poems in response to the very moving letter we shared from Jessica Cheesman, a founding member of Band of Sisters, in December 2016.

Jessica’s son, Stephen Vause, was critically injured in Iraq 2007. Jessica wrote her letter to say thank you, not only for the fundraising and donations but specifically for the messages of support and encouragement she received from the public. They meant so much to her and her family and gave them strength through difficult times. You can read Jessica's letter here.

“Knowing you are still there will mean the world.”

Ten years on and Jessica explains that these messages of support are still needed today. “Some people think that now the war is over, the dark days are over, but life isn’t like that. We all have good days and bad days – and some families are experiencing their darkest days today, years later. For them, reading your messages and knowing you’re there will mean the world.”

Thanks to your support we have been able to support thousands of families over the last ten years. As Jessica’s letter stressed, the need continues to rise as more people come forward every day.

“Your support continues to make a difference to all of us. Thank you so much.”

The astonishing response sends a powerful message to families like Jessica’s that you haven’t forgotten them and that, together, we will support them for life.

All of the messages have been displayed across our four Recovery Centres and will be printed in books for beneficiaries and their families to read. Thank you, they mean so much to our Heroes, their loved one as well as our staff.

Leah Rochester (pictured) reading your messages of support, said: “It’s good to know there are people who do care about Dad and all the other guys here. It makes me feel a lot better.”
