Join us on the Big Battlefield Bike Ride 2019

Posted by: Help For Heroes | Categories: Challenges , Fundraising

For more than ten years, the Help for Heroes Big Battlefield Bike Ride (BBBR) has used pedal-power to raise funds in support of wounded, injured and sick Veterans.

In June we will be taking to the road once again, and we want you to join us on this ride of a lifetime.

Join fellow fundraisers and our very own cycling Heroes as they cover 350 miles of Northern France over five days, taking in some of history’s most iconic battle-sites along the way.

Sound like a daunting challenge? Why not gather the support of family, work colleagues or friends and sign up as a team? David Bold, Area General Manager at Moto Lancaster Services will be doing just that, as he prepares to take on his third BBBR next summer alongside his colleagues. Moto has been supporting Help for Heroes since 2012, raising £1.9m so far and still going strong.

“The BBBR is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year and it really is a rollercoaster ride.  It’s physically tough, but so rewarding and it can get quite emotional too.

“When I think back to 2018’s ride it was wet and wild, with heavy downpours for a few days. But that didn’t dampen our spirits!”

Riders like David, who have taken part in previous rides, often talk of the extraordinary sense of camaraderie they experience whilst on the road. For David, last year’s challenge was an emotional experience.

“Cycling 350-miles through historic WWI battlefields, seeing ceremonies of remembrance and listening to talks from beneficiaries made the ride an incredibly emotional experience.

“The camaraderie was fantastic, with all of us supporting one another to make it through the miles each day. It was a truly inspiring week spent with fundraisers (aged from) 23 to 70!”

Next June’s ride will hold a special poignancy, as it will mark the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings. From Normandy’s iconic beaches to Pegasus Bridge – you’ll have the opportunity to retrace the steps of the brave souls who fought to keep us safe and discover their poignant history, direct from some of the UK’s best historians.

Become part of an extraordinary journey, where your efforts will help to support truly inspirational individuals to rebuild their lives.

“If you are daunted by the amount of money to raise or the distance to cycle, try and break each down into smaller chunks and see if others around you will lend their support; that goes for fundraising and training! Remember that there is a great Help for Heroes team standing by to help you in any way they can.”

“Go for it - maybe I’ll see you there next June!”
