Wheelchair Rugby smashed through the Semi-Finals against USA to secure a place in the final against the Australian team. The atmosphere was electric, the crowd was massive and the stakes were high. Australia eventually triumphed in front of a home crowd and our competitors took silver.
After a nail-biting finish today in the Archery, our Team UK competitors are in contention for a Bronze medal tomorrow. Not even being blinded by the sun could stop them hitting their target!
At the athletics, temperatures soared along with the team spirit. Personal bests were smashed and 11 medals won. Joe Dillnutt, who won three medals in the Athletics, was overwhelmed to see his teammates achieving their goals:
“I have to hold back tears when I’m watching some of my teammates. They’re just incredible,” he said.
The Athletics also saw Team UK competitor Matthew Tate watch his cousin Alex take gold in the long jump – despite never having done the sport before!
Alex said: “The atmosphere today was just incredible. I couldn’t hear myself think with all the screaming going on. We had the full Tate team there today.”
Injured four days apart in Afghanistan, Matt described today as “amazing”.
