Fundraising idea | Stand out in a crowd

Posted by: Help For Heroes

In 2014, fundraiser James Brown met Army Veteran and fellow Tough Mudder competitor, Mark Holloway. The pair got chatting and James came away with a determination to raise money for Help for Heroes, who helped Mr Holloway in his recovery.

James runs every UK Tough Mudder of the season and does all of his training in the gym wearing his Help for Heroes vest. He often does 4 laps of the courses in a day to train for the World’s Toughest Mudder, a gruelling race during which participants lap a 5 mile course with extreme obstacles as many times as possible in 24 hours.

In 2017, James, 55, finished first in two of his age categories, and came 46th out of 1,600 competitors with 70 miles clocked up - all on the toughest course to date in Las Vegas, USA.  In 2018 he plans to continue building on his incredible achievements and hopes to reach a new personal best. Coming from a community leader background and as a personal trainer, he knows the visibility a branded vest gives the charity, and looks forward to competing and fundraising again wearing the Tri-colours.

James says, "wearing a Help for Heroes top makes me proud to be giving something back to the people who put themselves out there for my safety. I have friends and family who are ex-Army and I’ve seen physical and psychological injuries that they live with each day. What little I collect I hope helps, and I’ll be pushing myself to the limit again in 2018!”.

James fundraises for all his runs and the World’s Toughest Mudder events throughout the year, and has raised approximately £2,000 to date.

Once you’ve registered your event and started fundraising, we will send you a free T-shirt or vest to wear. There are some great benefits and opportunities to wearing a branded T-shirt.

Before your Event

Moveable marketing

Wearing your T-shirt makes you a walking billboard for your event! This means that whilst training you can continue to raise awareness - and hopefully boost your all-important fundraising.

During Your Event

Raise Awareness

Charity T-shirts and vests are a great way to drive awareness of your fantastic fundraising efforts, and your commitment to supporting Help for Heroes.

Stand out

A colourful branded T-shirt always stands out in a crowd – and can offer some great photo opportunities!

Team Spirit

Charity shirts for a team fundraising activity are very striking. Not only can you spot each other easily, you’ll also feel a real sense of pride as part of your team.

Add to your Help for Heroes T-shirt or vest

Personalise your T-shirt by adding your name, an inspirational quote, a picture or something specific to the event – you never know who might see it and be inspired to do their bit.

Add the Help for Heroes logo to your own T-shirt

If you prefer to create your own shirt, adding the Help for Heroes logo can increase others’ awareness and let them know you have chosen to fundraise for us. Why not choose a shirt in one of our colours - red, navy or light blue? If you have any other ideas for your T-shirt, don’t forget to discuss them with the Events Team first so that we can support you with this.

And finally…. T-shirts are a lovely memento for you to keep and wear again post-event, your very own badge of honour.
