Final call to join our army of Volunteers at the Tour de Yorkshire

Posted by Help For Heroes | Categories: Volunteering

The Tour de Yorkshire is seen by many as one of cycling’s most dramatic and best-supported events, last year attracting a record 2.6 million spectators. If you’ve ever watched it on TV then you’ll have felt the excitement when you’ve seen the masses of cycling fans lining the country roads as the peloton races to the finish line. However, there’s nothing like being there yourself and being part of something really amazing.

If you’re free for a day or two during the tour (2-5 May) then you can play a really important role at the Tour de Yorkshire as one of our volunteers – helping us, as official charity partner for the Tour, to raise funds and build awareness of the work that we do in supporting veterans and their families with the help they need, when they need it.  You get to be in the thick of the action and it’s a really fun way to get involved.

We are now looking for Volunteer Team Leaders and Collection Volunteers to support our fundraising, cheer the riders along and boost awareness of Help for Heroes throughout each day of the tour. We need at least 400 people across the whole event.

Volunteer Team Leaders are the main point of contact for a team of Collection Volunteers who have agreed to help at your chosen Tour De Yorkshire location. In this role, you will also receive Help for Heroes promotional items to take along to the collection location. It’s a responsible but enjoyable role.

Collection Volunteers will be doing bucket collections at the starts and finishes, as well as in Leeds Millennium Square and other spots along the route throughout the weekend. This is a chance to volunteer some of your time to help at a Tour De Yorkshire hot spot! You will be part of a fundraising team and meet lots of new people, have a great time and help give our heroes a second chance at life.

If you can spare your time, we would love to see you there to help us raise as much as possible, while enjoying watching what is set to be a weekend filled with epic racing.

The four stages of the Tour are as follows:

  • Stage 1 on Thursday 2nd May - Doncaster to Selby
  • Stage 2 on Friday 3rd May - Barnsley to Bedale
  • Stage 3 on Saturday 4th May - Bridlington to Scarborough
  • Stage 4 on Sunday 5th May - Halifax to Leeds

We anticipate the volunteering day will roughly run from 0900 - 1700, but timings will vary according to location and may be impacted by road closures on the day. A full briefing pack will be sent to you two weeks before the event with all the information you need for the day.

Why just ‘be there’ when you can actually ‘be part of it’ and do something amazing too? To date, we have helped over 22,000 men and women – including over 1,500 in Yorkshire through the dedicated Recovery Centre based at Catterick. By collecting money for us at Tour de Yorkshire you will help us make a difference to many more who need our help.
