Alex's update | Northern Ireland

Two BoB and two BoS took part in a two-day horse assisted coaching course in Comber. The course taught participants to ‘be more horse’ by completing tasks which improved confidence, self-esteem and leadership qualities. Interacting with the group, our great host and the beautiful horses made attendees acutely aware of our energy, and how learning about this can dramatically improve so many elements of our everyday lives. It was a truly wonderful course and experience, and I know that we it has left a really positive impact on us all.

This month also saw our first BoB/BoS arts and crafts session. It was a lovely evening of creativity. These sessions are a perfect opportunity to relax with fellow BoB/BoS whilst focusing on a task. It encourages the feeling of accomplishment having made something lovely. We hope to run these sessions regularly.

I am very excited to let you know about the Northern Ireland Sports Taster Session on Saturday 25 November in Aldergrove. We've been asked for more activities in local areas, and the H4H Sports Recovery Team have responded by putting together a brilliant day of taster sessions of: indoor rowing, powerlifting, swimming, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, sitting volleyball, table tennis, archery, field events, cycling and a display from Mission Motorsport NI.

I would really encourage you to come along and take full advantage of a day which is unique to the region and has been put on especially for you. Enjoy a day full of activities, a lunch and the opportunity to meet other Wounded, Injured and Sick Veterans and Serving Personnel, as well as staff from other ex-service supporting organisations. To register your interest please email the Sports Recovery Team with your name, contact number and email address.

If you need any more information or to sign up to any of the forthcoming events, please email me.

Gerry's update | Scotland

Sean Kelly Chat Show at the Edinburgh Fringe

Band of Brother Scot Garthley and his friend Sheldon Maxwell enjoyed a great afternoon at the Edinburgh Fringe. Scott was the lucky recipient of a pair of tickets to see the Sean Kelly Chat Show (Sean is the auctioneer from the popular TV Show Storage Hunters) and he also got to meet Sean before and after the show.  Sean handed over £3171 to H4H which was money raised from his fun daily auction at the chat show.

Family Fun Day / Clan Games in the Highlands

The sun was missing but that did not spoil an absoulutely brilliant day when some of our Band of Brothers and Sisters together with their loved ones enjoyed a family day of fun, games and lots of laughter at The Highland Cycle Ability Centre in Nairn.

The Centre provided a full range of all age and ability cycles so there was racing around the track in a beautiful setting as well as a lovely buffet which everybody thoroughly enjoyed. Even Hero Bear joined in the action!

There was a great variety of games and activities on offer during the day including Welly Tossing, Boules, Sack Race, Egg and Spoon, Beat the Goalie and prizes for the winners.  The kids were brilliant and were so excited about taking part!

Woodworking Workshop

Band of Brothers learned some woodworking skills when they had the choice of making a garden bird table or a child’s rocking chair.  The results were amazing!

Harriet's update | North East

We had two lovely get togethers in Middlesbrough and York this month. It really is so nice to see so many new faces. These are great opportunities to network and meet other Band of Brothers and Band of Sisters in your area. Don’t forget that if you are unable to make it to a get together or would prefer to meet on a one to one feel free to pop in to Phoenix House Recovery Centre.

Don’t forget that I will be based at the RBL pop-in centre in Leeds every first Thursday of the month. If you would like to come in for a chat just drop me an email. They hold their own coffee afternoon from 1300-1600 which you are welcome to join me for.

Please remember that if you apply for an event and are unable to make it you inform us as soon as possible.
