It’s been announced that the campaign to sound Big Ben to mark the UK leaving the EU has been unsuccessful and the money raised will now be donated to Help for Heroes.
While Help for Heroes is not a political charity and this was a big surprise to us, we’re grateful that the public donated on the understanding that if the campaign didn’t reach its target the money would go towards funding support for wounded veterans.
Help for Heroes were not involved in soliciting this and were surprised by being named as a potential beneficiary. We are not a political charity and we don’t align ourselves with any specific political party and the donation to Help for Heroes is not being used to promote a political agenda or party.
Our ethical policy is enforced by our Risk & Audit Committee, made up of Trustees and our Chairman. The Committee has reviewed this donation against our ethical policy, and is happy that we are able to accept the funds to help provide vital support to our wounded and their families.
Our income is falling with public donations across the military charity sector in decline. We work closely with others in the sector to ensure we can continue delivering vital support to those most in need, for as long as they need it.
