Nine days and 517 miles later – the Bell's Barrel of Laughs rolls up to Tedworth House!

Residents and staff joined Zara Philips and Mike Tindall to cheer Rob Edmond as he crossed the finish line at Help for Heroes Recovery Centre, Tedworth House today to complete Bell’s Barrel of Laughs – the celebrity barrel roll relay which has raised thousands for Help for Heroes – adding to the £1million already raised by the whisky brand.

Comedy stars and Veterans accompanied the whisky barrel on its 517 mile journey from the Blair Athol Distillery in Scotland over the past week, going through towns and cities including Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham; and stopping off last night at Brize Norton before completing the final leg today.

Team leader Rob Edmond said: “It’s been a monumental challenge but we’ve made it and the support has been fantastic. We can’t thank the British public enough!”

Help for Heroes Co-Founder Bryn Parry hailed the comedy team. He said: “What a Herculean effort by the guys. They’ve battled rain and snow and they’ve made it to Tedworth House with a smile on their faces. They’re a real credit to themselves.”

Bell’s Barrel of Laughs began on Monday morning when Joanna Lumley kicked off the challenge at the Blair Athol Distillery.

Along the route comedy stars - including Fred MacAulay, Jarred Christmas, Tom Wrigglesworth, Mark Dolan and Rufus Hound - performed stand-up gigs at Marston's pubs at the overnight stops to drum up extra cash, and to give local Veterans a chuckle.
