As the 2014 H4H 4x4 European Rally draws to an end, we hear from Team 14 what the final day involved:
Well the final day has arrived and we set off in convoy up to Hitler’s Alpine retreat, the ‘Eagles Nest’. It’s a steep road and we are initially aiming for the car park which is as far as we can take the cars. Once in the car park we are greeted by the marshalls and drive through chequered flags so that the cars at least have made it as far as they needed to. We’ve made it to the finish line and now we just need to jump on to a bus for the final journey to the top.
Once the bus has dropped us off, we have a group photo and then walk through a tunnel to take the golden lift to the top. The view from is stunning and you can see all the villages and lakes below. It’s a bit cloudy, but it does clear every now and again, so we can see the views below and Hitler's home.
When we get back to our cars, we have a free afternoon and everyone heads off in different directions. There is a lot to do in this area and we visit a beautiful lake for some sight seeing and an ice cream.
A final meal has been organised for the rally crews, and we arrive on mass for 6.30pm for traditional Bavarian food, a presentation and music provided by a local band.
The rally has officially ended and many people are heading for a two day stay in the Moselle tomorrow, whilst others head for home. As a family we’ve had a great time. We’ve met some lovely people and had a brilliant experience, whilst delving in to our history and that of Europe.
The organisation of the rally is awe inspiring and we have nothing but admiration for Keith and Tim who spend nearly all year putting it together.
What an experience!
A huge H4H congratulations and thank you to all who took part and supported this year's 4x4 Rally, and especially the Event Organisers!
It’s not too late so please visit 4x4 Rally to donate.
