Wellington Academy staff and students are baking for Heroes

Staff and students are top of the class after hosting a Bake for Heroes event at school again this summer.

Bake for Heroes 2018

For the second year running, staff and students at the Wellington Academy, Tidworth are rolling up their sleeves to Bake for Heroes this summer. The Academy’s first-ever event in 2017 proved a huge success – bringing staff and students together over cake, whilst creating a personal day for the many students from military families.

Wellington Academy’s cookery teacher, Rachel Tuliva said, "As a department (Design Technology), we are huge advocates of Help for Heroes, and there is a very strong connection to the military in the school"

"It was our first event last year, and it was a fantastic day, with everyone in high spirits. Everyone got involved, and with the Charity’s accessories spread around the school it was quite a magical experience."

As well as aiming to beat last year’s total of £750, Rachel is also keen to raise awareness about the Charity, and the plight of Servicemen and women across the country who suffer from mental or physical injuries, "Help for Heroes is a really good cause, and many people may have to use the Charity at some stage in the future."

And if you’re considering taking part, Rachel wholeheartedly encourages it:

"It doesn’t matter how big or small the event. Everybody can get involved and it doesn’t have to be a homemade cake."

"Bake for Heroes is essential as it brings in vital funds. Baking is such a positive thing, and when you see everyone together like last year it makes you feel proud to be part of it all."
