There were 4 highlights:
We were joined by 8 people from Phoenix House, including members of the Band of Brothers riding specialised hand bikes who rode from the morning stop at Sheldon to the finish in Harrogate. It is a humbling experience for everyone to see the determination and positive attitude of the wounded, who try really hard to achieve all that can be expected of the able-bodied.
Riding some of the route of the Tour de France, that comes to Yorkshire in July. We will know what they are facing when we watch them on the television. Bradley Wiggins and others will make it look a lot easier than we did!
We all got to spend time in Phoenix House for lunch and saw the impressive scale of the facilities and the care taken to give the best possible recovery for the Band of Brothers and their families.
Tony Scott celebrated his 50th birthday so there were 2 cakes, 3 renditions of Happy Birthday and a surprise visit from his family to our hotel in Harrogate. Tony is a Band of Brother and is doing the Tartan Express as a thank you for the support received from Help for Heroes when he needed to recover from a serious injury.
Apart from the obvious words of the day related to the weather, we have:
Emotional, family, sore, hilly, beautiful, awesome tandem, synchronised vomiting, steep, endless.
So 3 days done, 220 miles completed and a forecast of better weather to come!
Friday 7 December 2018Today, the Tour de Yorkshire has announced military charity Help for Heroes as their official charity partner for 2019.
Big or small, every donation makes a difference to our wounded Servicemen and women and their loved ones.
